BACKGROUND
Many disciplines.
A shared curiosity.
I'm Sergey Bogdanov, PhD, an engineer, researcher, developer, and educator based in Windsor, Ontario.
Understanding, building, explaining
I use modelling, data, and software to understand how things work, build useful tools, and explain complex ideas clearly. My background spans mechanical engineering, fatigue and fracture research, automotive simulation, reliability engineering, statistics, software development, and teaching.
My work moves between theory and practical problems: from doctoral research in fatigue crack growth at the University of Waterloo to virtual durability validation, reliability analysis, statistical modelling, and the development and use of technical software. I am particularly interested in how data and probabilistic methods can be used to describe uncertainty, failure, performance, and real-world systems.
Outside of professional engineering, I apply the same curiosity to sports, especially hockey and baseball, as well as machine learning, electronics, robotics, and software experiments. Teaching ties these interests together: a good explanation should make the assumptions visible, connect the mathematics to something concrete, and give the reader a way to test the idea for themselves.
Bogdanov.ca is where I bring these threads together through research, technical writing, data analysis, experiments, and small applications.
